Rumors about Umar Sadiq persist – Almería announced deal

Total for Villarreal “far too high”

“He’s not here because we don’t want to take the risk of a possible injury that could stop the transfer. He’ll be sold for just under €30m,” UD Almeria manager Mohamed El Assy recently said of striker Umar Sadiq (quoted via “VI“). The 25-year-old Nigerian was absent from a friendly against Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, home of club owner Turki Al-Sheikh, for the newly promoted Spanish top flight. Last weekend, however, he was in the starting XI for the league opener against Real Madrid (1-2). Was the statement just to make the player more interesting in the transfer market or is a move still likely? In any case, the rumors persist.

Transfer expert reported on Wednesday Fabrizio Romano the upcoming departure of Villarreal striker Boulaye Dia (25) to US Salernitana 1919 in Serie A – loan with option to buy. The 2021 Europa League winner has been the biggest prospect for Sadiq for weeks. “Voetbal International” quotes President Fernando Roig as saying: “We don’t know anything about it and we won’t do anything about it. We spoke to each other when the transfer window opened, but the transfer was never an option because the demand is way too high. After that we didn’t speak again. The sum – it’s like we have to settle on another planet.”

In comparison: Villarreal’s record arrivals / Almería’s record departures

Indeed, a sum close to the 30 million mark would make Sadiq Villarreal’s record deal. The “Yellow Submarine” only spent 20 million euros and more, but never more than 23.5 million, three times: for Arnaut Danjuma (25), Paco Alcácer (28) and Gerard Moreno (30). Sadiq’s market value, on the other hand, is 18 million euros after an outstanding promotion season with 18 goals and twelve assists, his contract runs until 2025. In 2020 Almería had spent the second highest amount in the club’s history for the international: 9 million euros flowed in from the second division club at the time of its owner’s large bank account to Partizan Belgrade.

It is still unclear whether Sadiq Almería will leave. In addition to Villarreal, FC Getafe is the most interested party, before the transfer of Anthony Modeste (34) there was also speculation about Borussia Dortmund. The Madrid suburban club have already pledged €10m to sign ex-loan striker Borja Mayoral (25) this summer. And Villareal? Last year’s seventh is actually aiming for the commitment of Edinson Cavani (35) without a club.
