Rudolf Schenker’s Scorpions promo ends emotionally

“Rock Believer” is the name of the new record by the rock band around Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker, which was released on February 25th. The release period coincides with the Ukraine war, sadly linking another Scorpions album to highly political events.

If you think of music for the fall of the Wall in Germany, you inevitably think of “Wind of Change”. The title of the Scorpions went through the roof not only in Germany, but also throughout Europe and the USA: it is still regarded as the Hymn for Freedom. “We have always seen our music as a form of peace and we want to keep it that way,” explains Schenker, referring to the current situation in Ukraine.

Rudolf Schenker fights back tears

The new disc was recorded in Hanover, the hometown of the Scorpions. That wasn’t planned, actually they had already rented a studio in Los Angeles. The plan had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic. However, the interview with “Morgenmagazin” did not deal with these difficult circumstances and the rough sound of “Rock Believer”.

Guitarist Rudolf Schenker says he’s finding it hard not to get caught up in the news and stay sane ahead of the upcoming Scorpions tour. He almost cried when he said, “There’s only one thing we can do, and that’s what we’ve done all our lives: pray for the people!”

Especially in connection with the war in Ukraine, the band’s new work should also serve “to remind people of it […]what was then,” Schenker manages to get out before he is overwhelmed by his emotions.

But before that he was able to report what the title “Rock Believer” is all about: “We’re over 60 and still making music”. In addition, it was always important to the band with their music to create connections between people “and that worldwide”.

The Scorpions are on their way to Las Vegas soon. Although their “Rock Believer World Tour” begins in the USA, they will also play several live shows in Germany in the summer.
