National coach Julian Nagelsmann has already extended his contract with the DFB. Now another key personnel could follow.
Rudi Völler can imagine extending his contract as sports director at the German Football Association (DFB) beyond 2026. He originally planned to stop after the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, the 1990 world champion said in an interview with the “Express”. But in the meantime he is rethinking his project: “Julian Nagelsmann, the team and the entire team are dear to my heart,” said Völler.
The 63-year-old initially wants to wait for the upcoming Nation League quarter-final games against Italy-on Thursday in Milan and on Sunday in Dortmund-before making a decision.
The recent contract extension of national coach Julian Nagelsmann had made Völler think. “When we announced the renewed extension in the DFB Presidium, everyone was thrilled,” he reported. “Afterwards, many in the Presidium, starting with Bernd Neuendorf and Hans-Joachim Watzke, asked me how it looks with me. Julian had also asked me about it one time or another.”
Völler had extended his own contract in April 2024 to the 2026 World Cup.
