RTL Tonight is a TV-flop of historical proportions: it is reminiscent of the time that RTL Late Night collapsed after the host had rumbled with Dionne Stax and the even worse-scoring successor with Twan Huys. The painful thing is that the late evening of RTL 4 scored great last season, but Peter van der Vorst demolished that hard.
‘It is even lower’
It is unprecedented, but RTL Tonight now sets a low record for the third evening in a row and a score below the border of 300 thousand viewers. After 297 thousand and 291 thousand viewers, 277 thousand people watched the talk show of Humberto Tan last night, Figures show from viewing figure agency Tina Nijkamp.
Last week, during the premiere week, an average of 380 thousand people watched the weekday episodes of RTL Tonight. Now that average is below 300 thousand. “Despite the very current beginning (Michiel Vos about Het Laatste Nieuws from America) it just doesn’t want RTL Tonight. It is simply even lower,” says Tina.
Lubach also bad
RTL Tonight is struggling with a bad lead-in, because Arjen Lubach is also not a crowd puller. This time 496 thousand people watched that. It is the first time that he scores this season under the half -million border. And that while Arjen did have a good lead-in, because B&B full of love immediately pulled 1.2 million viewers. “So half of the viewers lose.”
Why do so many RTL viewers drop out when Lubach starts? “He doesn’t have a RTL audience either. It is really messy, because after B&B for love it drops,” says Tina in her podcast The Media Week. “RTL will not be happy, not even with the order, I think, but I think they can’t do that much about it.”
Bad luck with Arjen
TV critics think that RTL 4 would benefit from it if RTL Tonight and Arjen Lubach change the spot, but according to Bridget Maasland the channel top does not want that. However, the pressure on Arjen increases. “At RTL Tonight they also have the unlucky with the last time, I have to add it,” said Tina.
“In terms of content of everything: many of everything, that desk is much too cold, the public that is not in the picture and what is very cold. Well, you name it, but they are also unlucky with the time, because at 22.35 hours or 22.40 hours start after Lubach, while it also goes through all day, yes, that is of course not very nice.”
Contractual
Media journalist Mark Koster thinks Arjen should arrange. “Lubach is more a kind of end lock, right? Even if you go to such a day with debates and so on, then the comedian does the day -ending. Who thinks that it has to be? Tina, how is that possible?”
Tina has an idea. “Well, I think that was created by contract discussions. Lubach said it himself,” I want at the same time. “

Arjen has recorded that in such cases he does not become the child of the bill, Tina thinks. “He didn’t necessarily have to go to RTL. It was of course completely brought in with a lot of slime and money.”
