RTL 4 is going to cut very strongly on The Voice of Holland, right now that the popular duo Suzan & Freek is coming on board as a duo coach. And that leads to strong criticism internally. “It’s really a shame.”

You would think that RTL 4 makes every effort to save The Voice of Holland. After all, the format became heavily infected after Tim Hofman’s revelations: where the viewer at home saw an innocent talent show, the backdrop turned out to be the hunting ground for horny men as band leader Jeroen Rietbergen, the sweetheart of Linda de Mol.

No longer live

So far, everything seems to be fairly well-going for the makers: the Ali B process has moved on-that would first coincide with the premiere, but that will now be March-and Suzan & Freek will just be working as a duo coach. Despite her pregnancy and his metastatic lung cancer, the popular duo will still participate.

RTL 4, however, seems to throw a spanner in the works, because the comeback season of The Voice will also be the cheapest series ever: the channel will really cut back on the talent show. All live shows will be deleted: from now on the final round will be recorded in advance, which makes things a lot less urgent.

RTL confirms

The news was leaked via Tina Nijkamp and now confirmed by RTL. Show expert Aran Bade tells in RTL Boulevard: “We have checked it at RTL and it is true. They confirm that there are no more live shows. That is not because of Suzan & Freek, we explicitly asked that. It was already planned.”

What will it look like? “RTL says:” In terms of content, The Voice is still in production and we keep the answer about that guilty, “but what is true, and you can see that at The Masked Singer and Holland’s Got Talent, is that they record live on tape things.”

‘Really sin’

Live on tape means that a show is recorded in one piece and is not cut into it, so just like it is a live show. “The public can sometimes still vote, maybe live on the evening and that the winner will be announced in a talk show.”

Colleague Frank Dane thinks it is a mistake. “But what a shame, Aran. It always creates a special atmosphere and the tension that comes with it.”

A pity

Aran agrees. “I think it’s a shame. I totally agree with you. Also for the candidates and the audience. The Songfestival is now the only event on TV where you can vote live, making it retreating.”

Frank: “It must have something to do with money or not?”

Aran: “It certainly has to do with the production that it is too expensive, but we will not see the big Voice of Holland as we actually knew it and what we were familiar with, no longer.”
