Harry Tupan was a royal distinguished during his farewell meeting as director of the Drents Museum. He has been appointed officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.

The 67-year-old Tupan is retiring after an employment contract of more than 45 years. He does this with the exhibition he compiled Microcosm – the world in a Wunderkammer. Tupan held various functions in the Drents Museum. He was, among other things, assistant curator, head of commercial affairs and deputy director.

Mayor Marco Out of the municipality of Assen presented the Royal Award to Tupan tonight. “His contribution to the culture of Assen and in particular to the position of the Drents Museum in the art world in the Netherlands and beyond is of great value”, Out praises the work of the waving museum director. “With his enthusiasm, enthusiasm and perseverance, he has put the Drents Museum and therefore culturally Drenthe on the international map.”

In addition to the appointment as an officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau, Tupan was also surprised tonight with another award. He received the honorary medal of the province of Drenthe from Jetta Klijnsma, commissioner of the king.

Tupan was also put in the spotlight earlier this week. He then received the medal of merit from the municipality of Tynaarlo because of his crucial role in the rescue of Museum de Buitenplaats. The struggling museum in Eelde made a restart under the wings of the Drents Museum.
