The newly formed Germany eight has reached the final at the Rower European Championships in Plowdiw in Bulgarian and sent a sign of strength to the competition.
The flagship of the German Rowing Association (DRV) won the lead in 5: 18.79 minutes ahead of Olympic champion Great Britain on Thursday. The medal race will take place on Sunday (11:28 a.m.).
In Bulgaria, the German parade boat with five new rowers is at the start. Paul Klatterich, Tobias Strangemann, Julius Christ, Sönke Kruse and Theis Hagemeister as Schlagmann complement the crew with Olaf Roggensack, Mattes Schönherr, Benedict Eggeling and helmsman Jonas Wiesen.
The European Championship in Plowdiw is the first indicator for the new line -up, the highlight of the season is the World Championships in Shanghai (September 21 to 29).
The preparation for the summer games 2028 in Los Angeles begins this year. In the previous year, the flagship had not won an Olympic medal for the first time since 2008, after a change as a result of Tokyo’s games, the young team had to accept setbacks again and again on their way to Paris.
