After a dry spell, Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen drove to the front at the qualifying at the great price of Italy. A sign of life came from the Ferrari pilots.
Verstappen put on Saturday (06.09.2025) in 1: 18.792 minutes in Q3 the fastest time and set up a new course record. “The car worked well all weekend,” said Verstappen. For the Dutch it is the 55th pole position of his career.
The McLaren favorites had a long time. Lando Norris just made it into the third round, but drove his last round to two, 0.077 seconds behind Verstappen. “It was a difficult session for me with horns and depths and too many mistakes. I am quite satisfied with second place,” said Norris rather relieved because he had just made the leap into the top ten with his last round.
Ferrari with Leclerc and Hamilton at the front
Oscar Piatri (+0.190 seconds), Norris’ teammate and leader in the World Cup driver classification, goes into the race on Sunday (from 3 p.m. in the live ticker at Sportschau.de).
The Ferrari also cut a good figure in their home game. Charles Leclerc (+0.215 seconds) starts from position four. Lewis Hamilton (+0.332 seconds) achieved the fifth best time. Due to a punishment from the race in Zandvoort, the veteran is placed by five places back and goes into the race from ten -place.
Nico Hülkenberg reached his second best placement this season with starting place 12. With the optimal course, there might have been more in it. In the Q2, the German Haas pilot was only 0.066 seconds for a top ten placement for the last round.
