KYIV (dpa-AFX) – According to official information, the Russian military has carried out a serious attack against a coal mine in the Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk. “Shortly before the start of the heating season, the enemy once again struck a blow against the Ukrainian energy industry,” the mine management said on Telegram. At the time of the attack, 192 miners at the mine were underground. They were evacuated without incident.
No information was given about the nature of the attack or the damage caused. Mine management noted that this was the fourth large-scale attack on the company’s coal facilities in the past two months.
Only the day before there had been power cuts in the Dnipropetrovsk region following Russian attacks on energy supply facilities.
Energy plant in Koryukivka hit
Another Russian attack in the evening in the Chernihiv region hit an energy plant in the town of Koryukivka. “The damage is very extensive,” the regional electricity supplier said on Telegram. The power supply initially failed for around 55,000 people.
The Russian military has recently been increasingly attacking Ukraine’s energy supply facilities. The aim of the attacks is to interrupt or make it more difficult to supply the civilian population with electricity and water as the cold season approaches. In addition, the attacks are intended to wear down the morale and defensive will of the people of Ukraine.
Drone swarms over Ukraine again
