Cairo (dpa-Afx)-Iran reports an important step in the dispute with the UN atomic guards. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had agreed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the “modalities of dealing in the new situation”.

This result was achieved in the Egyptian capital Cairo, where IAEA boss Rafael Grossi had talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi and his Egyptian colleague Badr Abdel-Atti. Details of the agreement were not announced by the IAEA for the time being.

For weeks, the atomic energy authority in Vienna had been negotiating with Iranian representatives about the resumption of inspections. Above all, the focus is on the whereabouts of more than 400 kilograms of uranium, which, according to IAEA, has an almost nuclear weapon-compatible purity degree.

So far, Tehran has not informed the IAEA about where and in what condition this material is after the attacks on its nuclear facilities in June. Iran had spent deadlines for corresponding reports, said Grossi yesterday the edge of a meeting of the IAEA-Gouvernurer Council. Iran fear that Israel could bomb Iran again based on such information, it was said from western diplomatic circles in Vienna.

Worries about new war against Iran

Israel had waged war against Iran for twelve days in June and bombed central facilities of the nuclear program together with the United States, including the underground Fordo facility. Israel’s government justified the procedure with a threat from Iran’s nuclear and rocket program. Numerous lawyers classified the war as contrary to international law. Most recently, Iran’s government had expressed concern about a new war.

The background of the nuclear dispute are fears of the West that Iran can strive for nuclear weapons. Tehran rejects this. Iran had already committed itself to restricting its nuclear program in the Vienna Nuclear Agreement. In return, sanctions should be canceled. In his first term, however, US President Donald Trump unilaterally terminated the agreement. In fact, the deal has not been implemented for years ./arb/dp/nas
