Round of 16 in the DFB Cup: draw on Sunday live in the sports show

The round of 16 in the DFB Cup will be drawn live on the sports show on Sunday. There are no longer any separate lottery pots.

The draw will be made live on Sunday (October 23, 2022) as part of the sports show from 7.15 p.m. on the first, the head of the draw is DFB Managing Director Oliver Bierhoff. Who draws the lots is yet to be determined. In contrast to the 1st and 2nd main rounds, there will no longer be separate pots for the round of 16 draw.

The team drawn first has home advantage. Lower league clubs, which would have been granted automatic home rights in games against first or second division clubs, are no longer represented. The winners of the matches advance to the quarter-finals.

The dates: Round of 16 split into four days

The DFB has changed the structure of the dates in the DFB Cup with the 2022/23 season. The eight round of 16 matches will be played on four different days in two different weeks after the World Cup. From 2023/24, the quarter-finals and not the round of 16 should be stretched over four dates.

The first main round was already split up: the two teams playing in the DFL Supercup have been playing their games in the DFB Cup later than everyone else since this season.

  • 1st main round: July 29 – August 1 and August 30/31 Aug 2022
  • 2nd main round: 18./19. October 2022
  • Round of 16: January 31/January 1 February and 7./8. February 2023
  • Quarterfinals: 4th/5th April 2023
  • Semifinals: 2nd/3rd May 2023
  • Final in Berlin: June 3, 2023

DFB Cup: More money than ever before

According to the DFB, higher bonuses than ever before are distributed to the clubs in the DFB Cup during the season. The winner is entitled to around 10.8 million euros because, according to the DFB, the following amounts can be won per round, subject to unexpected changes:
