A 18 -year -old man from Rotterdam was convicted for six months of juvenile detention for the mistake of the March last year in Schoonoord. Two of the six months are conditional. The man still falls under juvenile detention because he was a minor at the time of the attack.
On 13 and 14 March last year there were two explosions at a house on the Brugstraat in Schoonoord. According to the judge, the then 17-year-old suspect was guilty of causing an explosion by throwing in a window of a home with a rock at night and then throwing in a combination of fireworks and fuel.
The residents were present during the explosion and had to flee the house. One of them had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance because he might be in shock. No other injury has arisen for the residents.
A lot of damage to the house has been caused by the explosion. The house was partly burned down, so it was no longer habitable and even had to be rebuilt. Many precious possessions of the residents were lost during the fire. In addition, the explosion has had a huge impact on the residents, according to the victim statement.
After the two attacks, the municipality of Coevorden was on security cameras in the vicinity of the house. A few weeks after the attacks, the police indicated that they had strong suspicions that it was a mistake. They thought the explosions were dealing with a conflict in the criminal circuit.
In December the case was dismissed against two 23-year-old women, who were first suspected, for lack of evidence. The case against the 18-year-old from Rotterdam was dealt with in Rotterdam last month. A 21-year-old Rotterdammer is still on trial for the Northern Netherlands court, but it is not yet known when.
