Rot-Weiss Köln lose the final of the Euro Hockey League

The German champions Rot-Weiss Köln have lost the final of the Euro Hockey League again.

The 2017 winners lost 1-0 to Dutch champions HC Bloemendaal in Amstelveen on Easter Monday. Last year, Cologne lost 4-0 to the Dutch in the final. Teun Beins (21st) scored the decisive goal.

The Red-Whites beat Atletic Terrassa 4:3 in the shootout thriller in the semifinals on Easter Sunday, after regular time the score was 3:3. In the penalty shoot-out, however, national team captain Mats Grambusch and Co. kept their nerves. The Cologne team had already secured their ticket for the semi-finals on Friday in a shootout against league rivals Hamburger Polo Club (3-0).

The German champions from Düsseldorfer HC, on the other hand, celebrated a successful conclusion in the Euro Hockey League and finished the Final8 tournament in third place. The Bundesliga side beat Spain’s Sanse Complutense 3-0 on Monday, with goals scored by Argentina’s Vice World Champion Agustina Albertario (36’/58′) and Sara Strauss (54′).

HC Den Bosch secured the title. The Dutch, who reached the final by beating Düsseldorf 2-1, won the final 1-0 against Campo de Madrid. Frederique Matla (46th), who had already scored twice against DHC, shone again as the winning goal scorer.
