After Gulácsi failure

“Pete really hurts. He’s our captain, he’s been an absolute bank in Leipzig for years,” said RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose after Péter Gulácsi (32) was injured. The goalkeeper suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament in the Champions League against Celtic Glasgow on Wednesday night and will be out for months. As a reaction to this, the “Red Bulls” could become active again on the transfer market, like the “picture” and the “Leipziger Volkszeitung” to report.
Accordingly, the Saxons are currently exploring the market for suitable candidates. Since the transition period has been closed since September 1st, only professionals without a contract are eligible. The three most valuable unemployed goalkeepers are Iván Arboleda (26; AV: 1.8 million euros), Danijel Petkovic (29; 1 million euros) and Richard Strebinger (29; 900,000 euros). The latter was already active in Germany and once made two appearances in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen.

If you only look at German keepers, Robin Himmelmann (33) and Luca Plogmann (22) are at the top of the market value ranking, both of which are estimated at 300,000 euros. A reactivation of Philipp Tschauner (36), who ended his career in the summer and has been a goalkeeping coach in the Leipzig youth team since then, is not an option according to “Bild”.
Update 12:08 p.m.: Rose confirmed at a press conference on Friday that they were looking for a keeper. “I think that makes sense. We have to take responsibility for being well and broadly positioned. If something happens to us again, it will be very young. We need to look around and we are looking around too. We will try to find a good solution calmly. It has to be someone who fits here, who wants to do it, who knows and understands his role, and of course he has to be able to catch balls,” said the coach, who also confirmed that a Tschauner comeback “is not an issue”. RB Leipzig also announced that Gulácsi will travel to Innsbruck on Saturday for knee surgery a day later.
Update 2:33 p.m.: The Saxons have apparently found a solution for the vacant goalkeeper position. As “skyreported, the Red Bulls are about to sign Örjan Nyland (32). The Norwegian, who played at FC Ingolstadt between 2015 and 2018, has been without a club at FC Reading since he ended in July. The goalkeeper only joined the English team in March and made ten games. He recently gained match practice with the Norwegian national team, where he is a regular. In Ingolstadt, Nyland made 18 appearances in the Bundesliga.
RB Leipzig: New signing Blaswich replaces Gulácsi after injury
Janis Blaswich is now between the posts for Gulácsi, who suffered his first serious injury in his career. The 31-year-old was signed on a free transfer from Heracles Almelo in the summer and played his first game in the “premier class” against Celtic. In addition, the two youngsters Jonas Nickisch (18) and Timo Schlieck (16) belong to the RB squad, neither of whom have any professional experience.
