In Hohen Neuendorf (district of Oberhavel), just north of Berlin, the roof of a retirement home caught fire on Schönfliesser Strasse late Wednesday afternoon.
According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, 107 residents were brought to safety. There were no injuries, the spokesman said. Around 150 emergency services are on site.
The residents would be looked after and cared for in another accommodation that had been set up on site by the emergency team.
An official hazard warning was issued due to heavy smoke development, residents should avoid the affected area around Schönflisser Strasse, windows and doors should be closed and ventilation and air conditioning systems should be switched off.
Nothing can yet be said about the cause of the fire. The fire brigade is on a large scale, the building is probably no longer habitable.
