Roeselare competes against the Italian Modena for the second overall victory

It will be the fourth European final for the Belgian champion. Roeselare already won the CEV Cup in 2002, which was then called the Top Teams Cup. The West-Flanders then defeated the Portuguese Espinho in the final and are to date the only Belgian men’s club in volleyball with a European cup in the trophy cabinet. In 1998 and 1999 Roeselare lost the final of the Challenge Cup, the third European cup.

Modena is going for a thirteenth European trophy in its twentieth European final. The twelve-time Italian champion won the Champions League in 1990, 1996, 1997 and 1998, the CEV Cup in 1980, 1986 and 1995 and the Challenge Cup in 1983, 1984, 1985, 2004 and 2008.

Modena, with world star Earvin N’Gapeth and our compatriot Tomas Rousseaux in the ranks, is the third Italian top team in Europe for Roeselare this season. In the group of the Champions League they already competed against Civitanova (two defeats). In the semifinals of the CEV Cup, the men of coach Steven Vanmedegael fought their way past Piacenza in a golden set. In the quarterfinals, Roeselare had taken the measure of rival Maaseik in a Belgian get-together.

Roeselare already won the Belgian Cup in their own country this season. In the play-offs of the Lotto Volley League, the West Flemish are currently second, one point behind leader Maaseik.
