Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich: It was never love

Villa in Herzogpark: The Lewandowskis live near the Isar

The love of Munich residents for their Isar is known far beyond the city limits. The river, which has its source in Mittenwald between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains, still has crystal-clear water 80 kilometers further in the metropolis.

In the district of Bogenhausen, the Isar flows past the posh district of Herzogpark. “RTL” recently released a streaming series on the anecdotal streets. This is where the Lewandowskis live. In the direction of the Oberföhring dam, the riverside paths are natural and not nearly as crowded as in the Isar floodplains in the city center. Ideal for a walk after a tiring Bundesliga weekend. And with a view of the English Garden on the opposite side.

Lewandowski meets Schweinsteiger’s friends in the Glockenbachviertel

Getting to see Lewandowski in the city was a difficult mission anyway. While club icon Bastian Schweinsteiger enjoyed strolling through the Viktualienmarkt or drinking coffee at Gärtnerplatz, Lewandowski lived quite a secluded life.

Fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of him should do so with two of Schweinsteiger’s buddies. The brothers have a fashion label in the middle of the trendy Glockenbach district, whose emblem is reminiscent of barbers and butchers. Right next door on Hans-Sachs-Strasse is the hairdresser of several Bayern stars, a good friend of ex-Munich native David Alaba.

Lewandowski liked to stop by here for a little chat or to exchange luxury cars for a tour through the picturesque foothills of the Alps. The tricky thing: in the beer garden behind the adjacent hedge, a huge flag of city rivals TSV 1860, not FC Bayern, flies.

Lewandowski is not seen in clubs – almost never

While the icon Schweinsteiger once integrated new team members into dazzling parties in the “Filmcasino” on Leopoldstrasse, Lewandowski was always the one who left a party quickly – or didn’t show up at all.

That’s how it was in April 2019 when Jérôme Boateng invited the team to the legendary “P1” on Prinzregentenstrasse. According to “Sport1”, Lewandowski left after twelve minutes. Photos of the top scorer have not survived either from the “Hugos” on Promenadeplatz or from the “Gigi” on the Viktualienmarkt, a regular Italian restaurant owned by CEO Oliver Kahn.

Even at the championship celebrations on the “Nockherberg” Lewandowski is said to have left the ballroom quickly. The club “Enter The Dragon” at the Old Botanical Garden is said to have agreed to it.

Anna Lewandowska didn’t want to establish business in Munich

That doesn’t mean that Lewandowski doesn’t enjoy the limelight from time to time. The best example was a trip to the Cannes Film Festival in France this early summer. Is the “cosmopolitan city with a heart” Munich no longer enough for him and his wife Anna?
