Rob Jetten successfully completed his performance on Today Inside: it was a pleasant broadcast, without too many critical questions. “It was a risk not to wear a jacket.”
The current election campaign is quite tame: there is still no so-called game changer been. Today Inside also does not play a decisive role for the time being. VI’s supporters are critical that progressive party leaders are not questioned sharply enough. Rob Jetten also got away easily from Wilfred Genee yesterday.
Public prosecutor
Too easy, says VI expert Victor Vlam. “I think the D66 campaign team can look back on that broadcast with satisfaction, because Rob Jetten received a noticeably warmer welcome than Geert Wilders. Some critical questions were asked here and there (…) but the public prosecutor stayed at home,” he says in the podcast Victor Indicates TV.
“In general, it didn’t hurt that much and it was a fairly pleasant conversation. I think that is an important victory for Jetten, because Nieuwsuur and Today Inside are high on the list of risky media appearances and he has now weathered both well.”
‘Really a shame’
Victor expected more. “As far as I’m concerned, VI should really have been more critical. I think it’s a real shame and a missed opportunity that they didn’t do that. VI’s traditional supporters are simply very critical of D66, which is a more elitist, intellectual party.”
“I think that as a talk show you would do well to represent the sound of your supporters. I think that makes you more relevant in the genre. Of course you have to fair and give him the opportunity to respond to things. If he says something good, that is also very nice, but critical points must be brought to light.”
Best explanation
According to Victor, what is the reason that VI was lenient towards Jetten? “The best explanation I have for this is that Today Inside is ultimately a program that revolves around chemistry and dynamics. If you go along with that atmosphere, you can go a long way and Rob Jetten went well with that atmosphere.”
Yet, according to him, Jetten has taken a big risk. “One tip I would have given Jetten in advance — not that it really matters, because it went well — is: wear a jacket, because Johan recently made a point of Thomas van Groningen’s clothing and he has also said it often about other guests.”
Dress code
A jacket is part of VI’s dress code, according to Victor. “A jacket is actually what you should wear if you want to sit at the table at Today Inside. And also order a glass of water and not a beer or wine. I believe Jetten did that too, because he had a glass of water. In any case, those are two tips to please Johan. These are things that he finds important.”
Tonight it is Dilan Yesilgöz’s turn at VI. Wilfred about this in the section In The Walkways: “I find that quite difficult, because she is just a nice person, but you see everything falling out of her hands. Everything is slipping through her fingers at the moment.”
