RM has revealed himself just days ahead of BTS’ highly anticipated comeback performance and the release of their fifth studio album, Arirang. sprained the ankle.
Big Hit, BTS’ label, announced the news in a Weverse post, explaining that the BTS leader sustained the injury in the middle of rehearsals for the concert. “On March 19th, RM sustained an ankle injury and was taken to a hospital for detailed evaluation and treatment,” the label wrote. It continued, “a medical diagnosis confirmed a rupture of the navicular accessory ligament, a partial tear of the ligament and a talar contusion (with ligament damage and inflammation).”
Due to the injury, RM “will have to wear a splint and strictly limit movement for at least two weeks in order to focus solely on his recovery,” the post said. Big Hit added: “RM has expressed its firm commitment to deliver a high-quality performance at the symbolic comeback performance at Gwanghwamun. The company, in close consultation with the artist, has decided to give priority to the medical recommendation in order to prevent further stress on the injury.”
Limited performance on stage
The label confirmed that “RM’s stage performance, including choreography, will be partially limited.” The company also addressed BTS’s passionate fans directly: “We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause given the high expectations for this performance,” adding, “While RM’s stage performance will inevitably be limited, he will do his best to be on stage and connect with ARMY and the audience. We know you have been waiting a long time for this performance, and we will do our best to deliver a heartfelt show.”
BTS’ show in Seoul, South Korea will be the band’s first live performance since the 2022 Permission to Dance on Stage Tour. Afterwards, the band was forced to take a break so that all seven members could complete their military service in South Korea.
Following the release of their fifth studio album, the band will also embark on an 82-date world tour starting April 9th. Before the tour starts, BTS can be seen at the Spotify x BTS: SWIMSIDE event in the USA on March 23rd.
