Instead of arriving normally, Tom Cruise landed by helicopter in the middle of the “Star Wars: Starfighter” set – and immediately grabbed the camera. Ryan Gosling wasn’t there.

In films like the “Mission: Impossible” series, Tom Cruise is known for his spectacular and daring stunts. Sometimes he jumps back and forth between urban canyons, sometimes he hangs on to a plane taking off. Even off the screen, he apparently doesn’t skimp on spectacular appearances. This is proven by a curious anecdote from the set of the new offshoot of the “Star Wars” universe.

Interruption of filming

Canadian actor Ryan Gosling has taken on the lead role in Star Wars: Starfighter. He recently gave an interview to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast where he talked about his experiences filming the new Star Wars film. He reported on what was probably the strangest event that happened on a day when he was not present on set.

On Ryan Gosling’s day off, Tom Cruise showed up on set to help director Shawn Levy film an action scene. The action hero chose the most spectacular way possible for his appearance. Instead of coming to work normally like all the cast, Tom Cruise promptly landed on set in his helicopter. Filming had to be briefly interrupted for landing. After his arrival, the 63-year-old started work straight away.

The La La Land actor said: “Tom Cruise flew to the set in his helicopter. They were filming when they heard a helicopter; they had to stop the scene – and it was Tom Cruise. He lands in the middle of the set, grabs a camera and just starts filming an action scene.” When asked what it was like to receive stage directions from Tom Cruise, he simply replied, “I wasn’t there.”

It is not known whether Tom Cruise himself will play a role in the film. What is known, however, is exactly which scene he helped film: It is a lightsaber fight in the water.

When will Star Wars: Starfighter be shown?

First of all, fans of the series can look forward to the next offshoot “The Mandalorian and Grogu”. This can be seen in German cinemas from May 20th. “Starfighter” is the next film to be released in the “Star Wars” cosmos – from May 26, 2027.

In addition to Ryan Gosling, the film also stars Flynn Gray, Amy Adams, Mia Goth, Matt Smith and Adam Pierre.
