RKC loses to much better Sparta: 2 – 0

RKC lost 2-0 to Sparta in Rotterdam. Despite a red card in the second half, they hardly managed to create any danger. Coach Henk Fräser’s team therefore drops to thirteenth place in the Eredivisie.

In a boring first half in which little exciting happened, RKC was hardly involved. Just before half time, the team from Waalwijk got a chance through Cleonise, who failed to punish an error by the Spartan defense and shot wide.

Sparta seemed to get a penalty just before half time, but the mistake was corrected by the VAR and the pin was rightly not awarded.

Shortly after halftime, Sparta were awarded a penalty by a handball from Yassin Oukili just inside the box. The Norwegian Tobias Lauritsen converted the penalty: 1-0. Ten minutes later, Arno Verschueren made it 2-0 with a diagonal shot after a perfect pass from Lauritsen. Shortly after his goal, Verschueren received a red card after a hard foul on RKC striker Zakaria Bakkali.

With one more man, RKC was able to apply a little more pressure, but there were no real opportunities. Sparta easily stayed upright. The Rotterdam team rises to fifth place due to the victory.
