The RIVM and the GGDs are starting preparations for a new vaccination campaign for after the summer. That is what Minister of Health Ernst Kuipers asked the authorities. Kuipers emphasizes that there is currently no reason for an extra vaccination round, but that those reasons will probably arise in the course of the year.
In any case, the ministry assumes that “the most vulnerable” will be able to get another shot after the summer. This mainly concerns the elderly. A scenario in which the entire population is offered a vaccination from the age of 18 is also taken into account.
The Ministry’s request allows GGDs to start recruiting and training personnel for the implementation of the new campaign, among other things.
The GGDs should initially be able to administer about 500,000 injections per week. This can be scaled up to 1.5 million vaccinations per week at a later date. The GGDs already warn that a shortage of personnel can become a problem due to the current shortage on the labor market.
