Riots before the European Cup game in Birmingham

There were violent riots before the Conference League game between Aston Villa and Legia Warsaw.

Three police officers were injured after they were pelted with flares and other objects. This was announced by West Midlands Police.

Legia fans were then denied entry to the stadium in Birmingham. According to witness reports, there were also arrests.

Legia complained in a club statement that Aston Villa had unnecessarily exacerbated the atmosphere through restrictive measures. The Polish club also did not receive the five percent ticket quota it was entitled to.
