The tourists on the Zaanse Schans do not know that the mills belong to the oldest industrial area in Europe. Once there were more than 700 paint, wood, oil and paper mills in the Zaan region. Now there is one of each species and they work as hundreds of years ago.
Amateur weather men mainly take their daily measurements themselves. With the utmost precision they keep it and do not skip a day. Fred Roovers from Zaandam is such a weatherman. In more than 50 years he never skipped a day. Not on vacation either, because then his brother kept the Zaanse weather.
