After a quarter of a century at Bayern, Thomas Müller is now playing at the Vancouver Whitecaps. Stefan Effenberg has a clear opinion on the change of the Bayern monument-and makes a prediction.

“Congratulations on this step,” said the long-time top performer of the German record champion in an interview with T-Online-and is certain: “The change to Vancouver is the right decision for Thomas.”

Müller and the Whitecaps officially made the change on Wednesday evening. Already in the weeks earlier, the team from the Major League Soccer (MLS) was acted as a serious candidate, but Müller himself had long left the tense public in the unclear through his new club. “Some wanted to suggest the end of the career, but he quickly made it clear that he wanted to continue playing. He will have considered it well – and saw the best overall package at this club,” continues Effenberg.

The task in Vancouver – currently second in the Western Conference of the MLS – is attractive. “This challenge for the Whitecaps is exactly the right thing. It speaks for him that he chose this team” – Müller was previously acted with the more glamorous club LAFC in Los Angeles. The 57-year-old emphasizes: The effect of this decision goes far beyond the sporty. “For his further development, this is a big step forward. He comes out of the usual environment in which he has moved for 25 years. This change will continue humanly and character.”

The change of wallpaper in the Canadian province of British Columbia will pay off: “He is in another country, thousands of kilometers away from home, he gets to know new people, speaks a different language. Effenberg is convinced: “The next year and a half will bring him incredibly valuable personal experiences where he will continue to grow. He will wish for that – and he will feel that directly.”
