Rick van Breda dethroned as Dutch beach race champion in Wijk aan Zee

Rick van Breda did not manage to extend his national title in beach racing. The 33-year-old cyclist from ‘t Zand finished fourth and saw Jules de Cock take over his title. North Hollanders Ivar Slik (Bergen) and Thijs Zonneveld (Amsterdam) completed the podium.

The Dutch beach race championship was held in Wijk aan Zee for the first time today. Very surprisingly, the overall victory went to De Cock. He took off shortly before the finish and opened a gap of twenty seconds to Slik and Zonneveld. Both could no longer keep up with the Eindhoven resident. Van Breda crossed the finish line half a minute after the winner.

In the women’s race, Nina Kessler (Velserbroek) was the best, just like last year. She was only three seconds faster than Tessa Neefjes from Wervershoof. Mariëlle Trouwborst completed the podium.
