The city council announced this on Thursday evening. Beukers will succeed Mayor Lieke Sievers, who will step down on March 25.
There were a total of fifteen candidates for mayor. The confidential committee sees Rick Beukers as ‘a figurehead for our residents and entrepreneurs: he is empathetic, connecting and involved’. “We also got to know him as accessible and genuinely interested in people and their motivations,” said Kees Sietsema, chairman of the confidential committee, during the council meeting.
Beukers is currently an alderman in the municipality of Bunschoten. He will be installed and sworn in on March 27.
