Rhythmic gymnastics: Varfolomeev wins the first German World Cup medals since 1985

The only 15-year-old Darja Varfolomeev won the first German World Cup medals in 37 years at the World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Sofia.

The student from TSV Schmiden won the silver medal with the ball and took third place with the hoop. “I feel mega. This is a very big surprise for me and I can’t believe it”said the German champion, who had already won two third places at the European title fights in Tel Aviv in June.

The last German World Cup medal to date was in 1985 Valladolid Bianca Dittrich from Dresden won bronze in the ball final. The only German gymnastics world champion to date is Carmen Rischer from Schwerte, who came first three times at the 1975 World Championships in Madrid.
