The student from TSV Schmiden from Fellbach (Rems-Murr-Kreis) did gymnastics on Thursday in Valencia, Spain, with clubs, which was by far the most difficult exercise of all eight finalists and defended her title from the previous year with 34,350 points. She then won easily with 33,350 points, also with the ribbon.

Gymnastics World Cup: Varfolomeev top favorite in the all-around

The day before she had already won gold with the ball and the hoop and is now the top favorite in the all-around decision on Saturday. Second in the final with clubs was Bulgaria’s Borjana Kalejn with 33.550 points ahead of Ukraine’s Viktorija Onoprijenko with the same number of points.

Margarita Kolosov from Potsdam took eighth place with 30,750 points. In the decision with the ribbon, five-time German champion Varfolomeev relegated her opponents Kalejn (31.850) and Ekaterine Vedeneeva from Slovenia (31.100) to second and third place.

Varfolomeev bought the first Olympic ticket in 2022

Kolosov had previously secured the second possible starting place for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris for the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB). As the world association FIG announced, the 19-year-old finished tenth after qualifying for the all-around final on Saturday.

The protégé of trainer Yuliya Raskina thus secured the second quota starting place. For that, she should have finished at least 17th after qualifying. Varfolomeev had previously won the first ticket to Paris as a World Cup runner-up in the 2022 all-around in Sofia.

In Valencia, the 16-year-old qualified second with 102,600 points for the all-around final next weekend. Best was Stiliana Nikolowa (Bulgaria/104,300), third in the World Championships, third in the elimination was defending champion Raffaeli (101,800). Kolosov scored 95.950 points in the four-way qualifier with ball, clubs, ribbon and hoop.
