For weeks, Eva Lys’ face was promoted for the home tournament at the Hamburg Rothenbaum. Now the turn: The 23-year-old will miss the competition.

This year Eva Lys should actually be the flagship of the tennis tournament at the Hamburg Rothenbaum, but now the local hero has to cancel her start. The 23-year-old thwart a rheumatism boost.

Lys have been living with autoimmune disease spondyloarthritis since 2020, in which the joints of the spine are particularly affected. As a result of a longer break to Wimbledon, complaints occurred again.

On Instagram, Lys said that she was hoping to be able to play until the end: “I tried everything to compete in my hometown, but my body showed me very clearly in the last training session that it was too early.” The decision was “anything but easy for her”.

Laura Siegemund had already canceled her start in Hamburg before. The Wimbledon quarterfinalist does not use the tournament due to load control.
