Review: Station 17 :: OUI PLEASE

The band collective translates krautrock into the present.

STATION 17 have never let themselves be impressed by the fact that social thought patterns are a tough thing. Their eleventh album OUI BITTE was created during a session in the Hohe Geest in Schleswig-Holstein. Just enough funk and good humor was built into the wide soundscapes that the questioning of musical and everyday habits is not lost, but catches the ear. The band’s typical willingness to experiment has thus resulted in a new vision.

And in that, even a depressed realization becomes a pleasure (“The Month”), not only because Andreas Dorau sings along with it, but also because immediately afterwards a meandering guitar sounds like sympathy. Speaking of sympathy: Of course, all the exhausted cleaning and care fairies out there, i.e. the househusbands, deserve it, and now an anthem named after them. OUI BITTE is not escapism, rather it brings its beauty directly to where it is needed. Krautrock for the now, in two senses.
