British road trip rock that has heard his Springsteen.
Driving guitars, pathos shower in the chorus and the mandatory saxophone: Fender’s third plate starts with the euphoric title song “People Watching”. That sounds familiar: The 30-year-old songwriter from North Shields has again studied his Bruce Springsteen, with the produced song Adam Granduciel, whose band The War on Drugs later also reminds the socially critical US rock “Crumbling Empire”. On the other hand, folk-heavy are songs like “Wild Long Long”.
The predecessor at which Fender negotiated his youth with therapy experience. People Watching is sometimes calmer and at the same time more cinematic. “Chin up” also has string arrangements. Some sounds are more lavish, although Fender not only strives for large gestures in terms of singing. Just “Remember my name” sounds too cheesy.
It is about old friends, bad luck in the CV and wanderlust, but also in accordance with privatization and everyday work of a nurse, the heart continues to beat for the working class. You don’t hear his sympathy for the controversial ex-Labor boss Jeremy Corbyn, the political comments look more well than before. People Watching is a great roadripalbum that reminds of how touching guitar music can be.
