Had Crowell on The Chicago Sessions (2023) in conjunction with Wilcos Jeff Tweedy as producers beat the hearts of the Americana audience, the 75-year-old is now going a few generation rejuvenation steps: Tyler Bryant, who is happy to use his band The Shakedown and a Southern Hard-Rock Sound like AC/DC or Guns Roses contested, acts on Airline Highway as a producer and casual guitarist and puts crowell with Willie-Sohn Lukas Nelson, Larkin Poe or Blackberry Smokes Charlie Starr at the side of the new Roots Rock Guard.
Recommendations of the editorial team
The result is an album in which ancient shoulder views are balanced with juvenile momentum. Crowell’s lyrical talent (“She’Sa Wildwood Flower in a Red Corvette / Tanya Tucker meets Cate Blanchett”) is not just on the lovely “Someime Thang”, but the ex-husband of Rosanne Cash and former musical partner of Emmylou Harris is growing in the duet with Ashley McBryde on the Road-trip-enthusiasts “Taking Flight” almost beyond his own legacy.
The lively cajun youth memories of Lightnin ‘Hopkins’ to Carl Perkins to Gene Vincent already transported in the song title “The Twenty-One Song Salute (in Memory of GG Shinn and Cléoma Falcon)” knows how to please “Heaven Can You Help”.
