Review: Oasis :: THE MASTERPLAN (25TH ANNIVERSARY)

Exquisite B-sides from the Britpop gods’ first three albums.

Instead of another reissue of the 1998 B-side collection (on CD, MC and double vinyl in silver, green, black and black marbled), we would prefer to welcome a sequel – after all, most of the single B-sides are considered to be their first three Albums as “Shoulda-Been-A-Sides”, and so pieces like “Round Are Way”, “Flashbax” and “D’Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman?” should have received new honors long ago.

But let’s put ourselves in the shoes of someone who doesn’t yet know the songs that are now available again and let ourselves be carried away by the euphoria of the opener “Acquiesce”, by the emotional force of the title track and by “Talk Tonight” that puts us to bed. This could have been it, the third fantastic Oasis album in a row.
