REVIEW. ‘Irma Vep’: “A wild arthouse sitcom in which the film industry is the biggest leech”

In 1996 the French director Olivier Assayas made a remake of the silent French film series ‘Les Vampires’ from 1916 with ‘Irma Vep’. The film was a satirical homage, in which the arduous process of the remake of that cult classic was especially central. 26 years later, the director is back with a remake of that remake in the form of an eight-part, tragicomic HBO series that can be seen on Streamz. Whether this modern update starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander has anything to add to his legacy at all? Evelien Delgouffe will find out for you in our ‘View Guide’.
