The masculine half creates a rap monument to the magically uncertain nighttime hours.
Inner emptiness, all energy spent, finally on the way home. Suddenly two eyes appear in the dull streetlight light, and after a dazed moment of irritation you recognize the city fox for what it is: emaciated and shy. There are already the first golden cracks in the sky, it is shortly before the end of the night.
Grim104 is not the first to create a musical monument to such drunken encounters and generally to the magical attitude to life “between six and six”. But what a thing! Full of grace, the convinced melancholic dedicates himself to the young wanderer that he himself once was, first in the Frisian village between the moor and the sea, and later in Berlin. Before our inner eyes he skillfully creates images of farewell, longing and nostalgia without ever drifting into the obvious kitsch.
The musical diversity of the album is surprising – at least until you look at the list of producers (Kenji451, Silkersoft, Nvie Motho, UHD, AsadJohn) who worked on this album, each with very different styles. Whether as a 90s UK rave homage using an underworld sample (“Risse”) or with hyperpop elements (“End of the World”), Grim104’s rap seems much more powerful and urgent than on his previous two solo albums. After ten album songs, one thing is clear: If the night has to end, then always do so!
