Yes, what did you expect from Billy Idol? In any case, not: a blurry streak at the start, a whisper and swing and bumbles. The opener and album name giver “Dream Into IT” do justice to his title, because he is actually a mixture between Dream Pop and Christmas Song, but expectations are already suffering.
However, it is quickly served again when the now 69-year-old, together with the surprisingly 40-year-old Avril Lavigne, pretends both of them together. Then the drums, scream the guitars and the two summon the good old days in duet, when punk only needed to stand around on the street corner to scare the philists.
Idol also employs this punkdingen in the further course, in “People I Love” he remembers what it was like to start a punk rock band. Of course, this is reasonably funny when such an old punk sings a song that is called “I’m your hero” and sounds as if Bonnie Tyler’s spirit drove into him. Hopefully it is meant ironically-just like the “Dancing with MySelf” resignation “Still Dancing” at the end.
