Review: Altin Gün :: Aşk

First a hopping bass kicks in, followed by a lively, tricky guitar, then Merve Daşdemi sings about love and how it does it! Even if you don’t speak Turkish, the reinterpretation of the Turkish folk song “Su Suziyor” takes you instantly – impossible not to move, not longing for it.

Altin Gün are dedicated to love on their new album anyway (the album title AŞK is the Turkish word for love), they also dedicate themselves to Turkish songs and cover ten famous folk songs. In fact, with many a piece you think you’ve heard it before in a different version – but probably not as psychedelic and funky as here.

The Amsterdam-based combo is back on AŞK in the style of Anadolu Rock of the 1970s, even a quiet, vocal-heavy piece like the – logo – love song “Dere Geliyor” gets a psychedelic touch. You just have to love this album.
