Started in the district league in 2021, it would be the fourth promotion in a row. And the third highest league, the regional league, is also to be only one intermediate station for the Dortmunders. BVB wants to go to the women’s Bundesliga as soon as possible.
The association is already investing massively for this. Markus Högner was signed for the coming season. The trainer is still responsible for the SGS Essen in the women’s Bundesliga. He led the Esseners to the DFB Cup final twice. Högner managed to build a solid first division team with simple means. From summer he should then develop Borussia Dortmund. And “solid” the BVB is guaranteed not to be enough.
Millions for new ones Training area
BVB is not only in players, but also in its infrastructure. Near the training center in Dortmund-Brackel, the club builds another training area-especially for women’s and girls’ football. According to information from the Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund is investing a seven -digit sum in the training area. Two to three lawn places plus a functional building will be built there in the next few years.
“We want to raise women and girls’ football to a similar level as men’s football”says Svenja Schlenker, head of department women and girls’ football at Borussia Dortmund. Schlenker does not feel pressure that the association must now go out due to the investments made. Instead, women’s football should grow naturally and organically: “We didn’t write a perfect schedule when we have to play in which league.”
Only lost a game since it was founded
So far, the Dortmunders have only been a loser since their foundation. If there is the next defeat in the derby on Sunday, it would be twice pain. Instead of the BVB, Schalke would then very likely. The Dortmund plan would then be delayed by at least one year.
BVB captain Marie Grothe does not want to think that far. “We first focus on this game and clearly go into the game that we want to win the game. Then we can then deal with what happened and what the table then looks like.”
