The investigation into the serious traffic accident in which boxing superstar Anthony Joshua was injured and two of his friends were killed revealed new findings on Friday. Among other things, it became known that AJ had already sat in the passenger seat before starting the journey.

The fact that boxing superstar Anthony Joshua escaped with minor injuries in the serious traffic accident in Nigeria was apparently more due to chance than previously thought.

On Friday, authorities officially filed charges against the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident, Kayode Adeniyi. He was charged with “reckless and dangerous driving causing death.” He was also charged with driving without a valid license.

Driver speaks of defective brakes

Adeniyi denied the allegations and said it was an accident. His version: The brakes on the car failed and this led to the collision with the truck parked on the side of the road, as a result of which Sani Ghami and Latif Adeyole lost their lives.

The Nigerian Transport Authority, on the other hand, came to the conclusion that the car was traveling at excessive speed, a tire burst and this caused the collision.

Joshua was already in the passenger seat

Adeniyi’s lawyer also revealed another detail about the accident trip to the Daily Mail. According to his statement, Joshua had originally sat in the passenger seat.

“I know that the journey started in Lagos and Anthony was initially in the passenger seat but the driver asked him if he could change his seat. He asked because Anthony is a big guy and he couldn’t see the side mirror properly. So he asked him and he [Joshua] sat behind the driver,” said the lawyer.

As a result, there was a swap between Joshua and Adeyole, who did not survive the impact.

The trial against the driver of the accident car begins on January 20th.
