‘Return to Raqqa’the documentary about kidnapping of twenty aid workers and journalists at the hands of the Islamic State between 2013 and 2014, has obtained a double award in the Visione dal Mondo festivalwhich has just closed in Milan.
The contest jury has awarded a special mention to the film, directed by the filmmakers Albert Solé and Raul Cuevas and with EL PERIÓDICO reporter Marc Marginedas as narrator. The moving story of that kidnapping has also been highlighted with the Amici Cineteca Milano awardwhich delivers the Cineteca Milano Arlecchino room, one of the great temples of cinematography in Italy.
The film was selected by the festival organization and has competed in this final phase of the international category for documentaries with a dozen filmswhich address various topics of international politics, from the conflict in Ukraine, to the situation in Iraq or North Korea.

Warmly applauded, Marc Marginedas took the stage of the Litta theater in the Lombard capital to express his gratitude for the award. “In these times of fake news, of propagandists who report conflicts from a distance, from bloggers with dark interests who spread conspiracy theories to sow doubts about massacres and bombings, from biased columnists who put ideology before facts, this award is a recognition of traditional war journalism, which is done on the ground and has as its “The only function is to give a voice to those whose weapons have been taken from them, regardless of the aggressor,” declared the Catalan journalist. “This award goes to all those who, for a year and a half, have been traveling to Ukraine to shed light on Russia’s invasion of the country,” he concluded.

The jury of the Milanese festival has justified the award by stating that the film tells “a story of collaboration and resilience”, in which “the audience is captivated by the candor and bravery of the protagonists in horrible circumstances.”
‘Regreso a Raqqa’ emerged as the winner at the Docs Valencia festival and became the absolute winner of the FIGRAS festival in France, winning the three main awards.
