Tennis player Alexander Zverev has not yet put his participation in the US Open at the end of August, but a return of the world number 2 in the Davis Cup in mid-September is a more realistic option. A spokesman for the German who had surgery on his ankle reported this to Reuters news agency.
Zverev (25) injured himself at Roland Garros at the beginning of June during the semifinal against Rafal Nadal. He was found to have torn three ligaments in his right ankle when he slipped on the Parisian gravel. Earlier this month, he announced that he had not yet given up on the US Open. The fourth grand slam tournament starts on August 29. “His recovery is progressing steadily and that hope is still there,” a spokesman said. Zverev has already registered for the Japan Open, early October in Tokyo. He would now focus on the Davis Cup, for which Germany will face France, Belgium and Australia from 13 to 18 September in Hamburg. “That is a more realistic goal,” said the spokesman.
