Eurozone retail sales fell more than expected in August. Revenues fell by 1.2 percent compared to the previous month, as the European statistics office Eurostat announced on Wednesday in Luxembourg. On average, economists had only expected a decline of 0.5 percent. The decline follows a slight decline of 0.1 percent in July. Compared to the same month last year, sales fell by 2.1 percent in August.

All retail sectors fell compared to the previous month. Mail order and online trading fell particularly sharply by 4.5 percent. (dpa)
