The 1. FC Cologne saw on Saturday how the competition in the bottom of the table caught up with FC. After their own defeat at FC Augsburg, Werder Bremen, St. Pauli and Borussia Mönchengladbach won their games. Mainz 05 also scored a point Bavarian Leverkusen.
Thanks to a 2-0 win in the basement duel against 1. FC Heidenheim, Werder reduced the gap to 1. FC Köln to two points. The FC St. Pauli won at TSG Hoffenheim 1-0 and moved within one point of FC. Thanks to a 1-0 win against Union Berlin, Mönchengladbach even moved past their arch-rivals from the cathedral city by one point. And Mainz, like St. Pauli, urged thanks a 1-1 draw against Leverkusen to within one point of Cologne.
For FC, the results of the competition were an absolute horror constellation: the winless February (only one point from four games) cost the billy goats most of their lead over the relegation zone. 16th place is only two points away, and Wolfsburg could even move up to one point with a win on Sunday in Stuttgart. The FC is now directly in the relegation battle.

1. FC Köln lost 0-2 (0-0) at FC Augsburg on Friday evening. The Billy Goats fell behind through Ribeiro (55th), Claude-Maurice made the decision at the last second (90+5th). The only chances on the Cologne side were Martel’s header that hit the crossbar and Özkacar’s header in stoppage time.
The billy goats only got one point from four games in February and are now back in the relegation battle. The competition can move closer to FC again in the remaining games on matchday 24. Before the match day, Cologne, in twelfth place in the table, was four points ahead of the relegation place.

In the past few days there has been one failure after another at 1. FC Köln. Now the all-clear has finally been given at Geißbockheim: Said El Mala was able to take part in the final training session on Thursday afternoon and then travel with the team to Augsburg. The striker had to take a break on Wednesday due to muscle tightness in his thigh.
Denis Huseinbasic, on the other hand, is out due to hip problems, as are Jan Thielmann, Joel Schmied and Sebastian Sebulonsen, who all suffered muscle fiber tears last weekend. New to the squad are U21 talent Cenny Neumann, striker Youssoupha Niang and the two veterans Florian Kainz and Dominique Heintz.
