Resistance is rewarded: deer parks are allowed to stay after all

Deer parks can still exist. This was reported by outgoing Minister Piet Adema (Agriculture). A keeping ban was previously announced for fallow and red deer, among other things. That would also eventually mean the end of all deer parks.

That decision met with a lot of resistance, including from politicians. For example, the Assen municipal council advocated the continued existence of the deer park. The municipal council in Noordenveld also did not want to lose the four deer camps.

The ban on keeping deer would come into effect on July 1. The deer parks did not have to close on that day, but they were also no longer allowed to breed to provide new animals.

That is now possible. Minister Adema has now come up with an exception for those animals, which are added to the list of hobby animals.
