Residual waste figures fall sharply in Westhoek

This amounts to a decrease of 18 kg per inhabitant per year if this trend continues in the second half of the year. The introduction of the new pmd bag, the selective collection of mattresses and the separate registration of industrial waste ensure a decrease in household residual waste.

Valentijn Despeghel, IVVO chairman: “IVVO’s residual waste figures show a downward trend for the first time since corona. This is mainly due to the citizens’ better sorting efforts. Since 1 April 2021, the pmd sorting rules have been extended. Since then, all plastic packaging can be put in the new blue bag. It is clear that the citizen eagerly takes advantage of this. The tonnage of PMD waste has increased by no less than 26%.”

IVVO’s residual waste figures are good, but there is room for improvement. “On average 43% of organic waste is still present in the residual waste. This waste belongs in the organic waste container and not with residual waste”.
