In addition to education, the village council has also set up childcare. Partly for that reason, the name has now been changed to the De Driessen Child Center.

New -build homes

The initiative in Grootschermer also did not go unnoticed in The Hague. BBB MP Caroline van der Plas came to congratulate the inhabitants personally with the preservation of the school. “In the east we call this noaberhood,” says Van der Plas.

Both parents and children are very happy with the preservation of the school. “That my boys can just walk to school later is very nice,” says Sjoerd Pilkes. He was also in this primary school himself. “So that also evokes some sentiment.”

The school will have 32 students in the coming year. “But we hope for more in the future,” says Jan Wind. “We have a view of a new neighborhood of around twenty to thirty homes. Then the number of children at our school will also automatically grow.”
