A resident was injured in a house fire in Purmerend this morning. The victim suffered burns and was taken to hospital. The fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control, but the damage to the house was extensive.

The fire broke out around 9:50 am in an apartment on the third floor of an apartment building. Several fire brigade units, including three tankers and an aerial platform, were deployed to fight the fire.

Damage is extensive

According to a spokesperson for the safety region, the fire has now been extinguished. Firefighters are still working on ventilating the home.

The damage to the apartment is extensive. A lot of smoke was released during the fire.

Residents and pets evacuated

Several residents of surrounding apartments were evacuated by the fire brigade. “When I heard some commotion upstairs and saw smoke coming up from the balcony, I immediately grabbed my keys and wallet,” says a visibly shocked Teun. He lives below the affected apartment.

Pieter is also waiting outside with his pets. He was warned by a neighbor via the neighborhood app. “I didn’t see any flames. However, the large window was cracked, so it must have been very hot inside,” he says.

The resident was checked on site by ambulance personnel for smoke inhalation and was subsequently taken to hospital with burns. The severity of the injuries has not been released.

How the fire started is still under investigation.
