Researchers have a new theory for Bruce Lee’s cause of death

There have been various theories about Bruce Lee’s death over the years.

Kung fu legend Bruce Lee died at the age of just 32 in Hong Kong in 1973. Lee’s cause of death remained largely a mystery, but now scientists claim to have found the cause of the Hollywood star’s demise.

According to an autopsy performed nearly 50 years ago, Lee died of cerebral edema, or swelling of the brain. At the time, doctors claimed it was caused by painkillers.

Now researchers say that Lee may have died of hyponatremia, or low sodium in the blood, caused by drinking too much water.

“In other words, we believe that Lee’s kidneys were unable to excrete excess water, which led to his death,” the doctors wrote.

According to the study, Lee had numerous risk factors for hyponatremia, such as the use of cannabis and just drinking too much fluids.

At one time, there were many different rumors surrounding Lee’s death. Some speculated that his death was at the hands of Chinese gang members. Still others claimed that an ex-lover had poisoned him.

Lee is generally considered the most influential martial artist in history.

Lee and his wife had two children together, Brandon and Shannon. The first mentioned died tragically at the age of 31 while filming The Crow.
