Mother Babi and her child Klein have a great time in the spring sun in their new stay. There they are now with eight other baboons. The introduction to such a group always comes into being. Everyone first has to get used to each other, says animal caretaker Bas Kolenberg of Zoo Blanckendaell.
“They first spent a time in their own stay where they could already see the other baboons. After that, we had them, with mesh in between. And only then do the animals really go together. The animal carers of the AAP foundation also helped us.”
Prohibition Shows Wild Animals
Last March, the Aap Baviaan Babi Foundation took over from the 90-year-old owner of the French circus. His age and the fact that France will forbid shows with wild animals had pulled him over. Once in the shelter there was a surprise: Babi was pregnant. She gave birth in April. Her baby was named after Joost Klein, who then went to the Songfestival.
